Each piece of the exclusive collection of this DaFranz is made individually by hand in Montelupo Fiorentino, an important Tuscan center for ceramics since the Middle Ages. Its success is to be attributed to the natural abundance of clay in the surrounding area, mainly due to the frequent flooding of the Arno river.These majolica pieces are true classics created using the now rare technique called 'ingobbio', an ancient Tuscan process that produces an authentic 'old world' look, adding remarkable body to the colors.
You can actually feel the coherent (almost lifted) body of the painting when you gently swipe your hand over the decorated parts.
Due to the complexity of both preparation and painting, this technique is used by very few craftsmen today, which makes these items very difficult to find.
